30. Textielcadeaus en een breipatroon

Na de presentatie van de poëziebundel ‘Niet mijn huis’ van Wendela de Vos kreeg ik van haar een tasje van een vrolijk geruite stof en met plastic hengels. Nog nooit zoiets gezien. Thuis uitpakken stond er op het label. Dat deed ik natuurlijk, want wat er staat, moet je doen.

In het tasje zaten twee theedoeken met geborduurd monogram uit de familie van haar vader. Een wit tafelkleedje met een kunstig gehaakte kanten rand en een rand open borduurwerk en een naaldenkoker met inhoud van haar oma.Ik ben gek op alles waarop een monogram is geborduurd; de twee theedoeken komen in de collectie in de theedoekenkast.

Toen ik het tafelkleedje fotografeerde, viel me op dat de rand van open naaiwerk niet helemaal is afgemaakt. Dat snap ik wel, want het is een gepriegel van jewelste om eerst de inslag eruit te halen en daarna met garen het patroon erin te krijgen. Het kleedje past overigens precies op onze terrastafel en daar krijgt het op zonnige dagen zeker een plaats.

In de houten naaldenkoker zaten drie heel dunne breipennen zonder knop, een ijzeren haaknaald nummer 8 waarvan het haakje is verdwenen en een waarschijnlijk benen haaknaald die wat krom is, wellicht door het gebruik.

Misschien is de kanten rand er wel mee gehaakt. Oud textiel met een verhaal, je kunt me er geen groter plezier mee doen.

Overigens is de dichtbundel van Wendela de Vos een prachtig eerbetoon aan haar moeder die ooit een ruïne kocht in Zuid-Frankijk, de bouwval met veel hulp opknapte en er jaren met intens genoegen de zomers doorbracht. Redacteur Jos van Hest en ik wilden het inmiddels verkochte huis zien, toen we in de Haute Provence waren. Jos las er gedichten van Wendela voor en ik zette het op film. Let ook even op zijn shirt, want dat heb ik gemaakt!

Op dit moment ben ik bezig met speurwerk naar het verhaal achter de inhoud van een doos met textielproeflappen die ik van mijn vriendin Evelien Verkerk heb gekregen. Ik ben al een eind op weg, heb de familie al via Internet gevonden en de eerste contacten zijn gelegd. Wordt vervolgd, zeg je dan.

Afgelopen zaterdag kreeg ik via LinkedIn een bericht dat er op Modelogica een artikel stond dat ik moest lezen. Modelogica is een maandelijks nieuwsbrief van modejournaliste Bregje Lampe, die in Het Parool en de Volkskrant schreef. In Modelogica #20: mode, waarom eigenlijk? staat het volgende geschreven:

• Bas Timmer, die met de Stichting Sheltersuit wind- en waterdichte jassen voor zwervers en vluchtelingen verzorgt, gaf op 4 maart een show in Parijs, in Palais de Tokyo. De kleding van Sheltersuit Label is gemaakt van restmaterialen en overgebleven stoffen van modemerk Chloé. De opbrengsten van het modelabel gaan naar de stichting, zodat die meer Sheltersuits kan geven aan mensen die ze nodig hebben. Dat is nog eens een mooi voorbeeld van alternatieve modelogica.

Terug naar de catwalk presentatie in Parijs. Het meest ontroerende bericht dat ik over deze show las kwam van een oud-docent van Timmer: Jan ter Heide, lang werkzaam als docent modevorming bij de de mbo opleiding van het ROC van Twente, die op zijn 63ste met zijn breisels op een Parijse catwalk debuteerde. Onderweg naar Parijs had hij nog een stapeltje Oekraïense harten gebreid, om weg te geven tijdens de show. Hij zat front row, vlakbij Suzy Menkes. 

Hoe leuk is dat! Je blog raakt een belangrijke modejournaliste die een link naar mijn Sheltersuit-blog in haar artikel zet. Dank Bregje Lampe! Ondertussen heb ik me natuurlijk geabonneerd op de nieuwsbrief van Modelogica.

Ook via LinkedIn kreeg ik van Katharina Lorentz een verzoek of ik een patroon kon schrijven van mijn gebreide Oekraïense Hart. Ik schreef een uitgebreid patroon in het Engels dat hieronder staat.

Mocht je het gaan breien en verkopen stort dan het geld op een goed doel waarmee je Oekraïense mensen in nood helpt. Ik stortte de laatste weken een groot bedrag op KyivPride. De lhbtiq+ groep daar heeft dringend geld nodig voor shelter en andere hulp.

I have used a rather thick yarn,  DROPS Snow / Eskimo which  my friend Loret Karman dyed in the right colors, but you can use every yarn in blue and yellow.

Needles: number 5, but depening on the yarn and gauge.

Everything is done in KnitStitch!

Start:

1. Cast on 1 stitch with yellow yarn.
2. Make two out of 1. (2)
3. Knit all stitches.
4. Knit one stitch in the front of the loop, make 2, take yarn forward and slip the last stitch purlwise. (4)
5. Knit one stitch in the front loop, knit till you reach the last stitch, yarn forward and slip the last stitch purlwise.
6. Knit one stitch in the front of the loop, make one, knit till you reach the last stitch, make one and slip the last stitch purlwise. (6)
7. Knit one stitch in the front loop, knit till you reach the last stitch, yarn forward and slip the last stitch purlwise.
8. Knit one stitch in the front of the loop, make one, knit till you reach the last stitch, make one and slip the last stitch purlwise. (8)
9. Knit one stitch in the front loop, knit till you reach the last stitch, yarn forward and slip the last stitch purlwise.
10. Knit one stitch in the front of the loop, make one, knit till you reach the last stitch, make one and slip the last stitch purlwise. (10)
11. Knit one stitch in the front loop, knit till you reach the last stitch, yarn forward and slip the last stitch purlwise.

14. Cut Yarn and leave a little tail to work in later.

15. With Blue yarn. Knit one stitch in the front of the loop, make one, knit till you reach the last stitch, make one and slip the last stitch purlwise. (14)
16. Knit one stitch in the front loop, knit till you reach the last stitch, yarn forward and slip the stitch purlwise.
17. Knit one stitch in the front of the loop, make one, knit till you reach the last stitch, make one and slip the last stitch purlwise. (16)
18. Knit one stitch in the front loop, knit till you reach the last stitch, yarn forward and slip the stitch purlwise.
19. Knit over the first 8 stitches. Knit one stitch in the front of the loop, make one, knit 4, knit 2 together, till you reach the last stitch, and slip the last stitch purlwise. Turn. This will make the right part of the heartshape. Leave the other 8 stitches on the needle for the other part of the heartshape.
20. Knit one stitch in the front loop,  knit all stitches, till you reach the last stitch slip the last stitch purlwise.
21. Knit one stitch in the front loop, knit 2 together, knit 2 stitches, knit 2 together till the last stitch, yarn forward and slip purlwise.
22. Knit one stitch in the front loop,  knit all stitches, till you reach the last stitch slip the last stitch purlwise.
23. Knit one stitch front loop, knit 2 together,  knit 2 together, slip the last stitch purlwise.
24. Knit one stitch in the front loop, knit till the last stitch, yarn forward and slip purlwise.
25. Knit one stitch in the front loop, knit 2 together, yarn forward slip the last stitch purlwise.
26. Bind off 3 stitches.

Other Blue half

27. Knit one stitch in front loop, knit 2 together, knit 4 stitches, make 1, slip the last stitch purlwise.
28. Knit one stitch in the front loop,  knit all stitches, till you reach the last stitch slip the last stitch purlwise.
29. Knit one stitch in the front loop, knit 2 together, knit 2 stitches, knit 2 together till the last stitch, yarn forward and slip purlwise.
30. Knit one stitch in the front loop, knit  all stitches till you reach the last stitch, slip the ast stitch purlwise.
31. Knit one stitch in the front loop, knit 2 together,  knit 2together, slip the last stitch purlwise.
32. Knit one stitch in the front loop, knit till the last stitch, yarn forward and slip the last stitch purlwise.
33. Knit one stitch in the front loop, knit 2 together, yarn forward slip the last stitch purlwise.
34. Bind off 3 stitches.

Take a tapestry needle and weave in loose ends and form the heart shape.

Use a little safety pin to wear it on your coat.
